  1. Finally getting to grips with the story line, with the previous episodes I kept getting the feeling I forgot to watch the first half of the drama. Suspect we will still get a lot of flash-backs to fully understand all the relationships between the main players. Really like the performance of the female lead (also enjoyed her acting in “Because of You”).

I revel in the parade of costumes that the characters are decked in, chinese period – uniforms – pre-WOII western style, costume designers probably put a lot of research and effort into this.

Your subs bring bliss to many Cdrama fans, thank you

  2. They purposely hired good looking actors to trap those who like pretty boys lol. Anyways, I wonder why JPC was tearing up as he assassinate Mr. Fan? That sure is strange–there must be a meaning behind his tears. Er Sao is so petty and dramatic how did she marry her husband but still harbor feelings for YLK? I guess we’ll find out later (or maybe not) haha! On another note, it is alarming that these women look so skinny in the drama as if they only weigh two pounds OMG.

    1. *spoiler*
In one of the trailers apparantly her father ordered her to.

And yes, being super skinny is a beauty standard in China. There are some crazy tests to show you’re skinny enough like your waist can’t be wider than an A4 piece of paper when you hold it to your waist and you need to have a visible v shaped thigh gap when you sit down (with your legs closed) etc etc.

      1. Yes I was aware she was forced but still curious for what reasons lol. To spy and keep Er Ge in check? Haha. Yeah the obsession with being skinny is extreme in Asia it’s pretty much borderline anorexia and bulimia. 😕😕😕

  3. I am a Cantonese speaker who is slow in following the simplified text, and ashamed that my Mandarin is rubbish. Thought I would have to bypass another Chinese drama. Again. Luckily, I chanced upon your website. Thank you so much for leaving the simplified text subtitles with your English translation — I can fully understand the dialogue and enjoy the drama while learning at the same time!

    1. Hi sorry which letter was that? So the eldest brother knows the meaning of the bullet in the head because Mr Fan told him before he left that if he gets shot in the head they will have to prepare for provincial autonony, i.e. they will have to allow each province to govern themselves and if it was in the chest, they will have to try and take over the puppet government at the time if you read my blog post on chinese warlords you’ll get a better understanding of the era and political background.
