[Eng Sub] Miss Truth Ep 22 & 23

Synopsis: Set in the Tang Dynasty, Ran Yu is a noblewoman who becomes interested in forensic science after her Mother’s mysterious suicide and begins to solve murder cases. She meets a judicial official and an assassin by chance and finds true love through the course of searching for the truth.

Translator notes:

  1. Emperor Gaozu of Tang: Father of the Emperor of this drama. He established the Tang dynasty after overthrowing Emperor Yang of Sui. If you’ve seen the drama The Legend of Dugu, the evil second sister is his Mother. He was born from nobility but with the gradually strained relationship between the Li (his clan) and the Imperial Clan he decided to overthrow the Sui dynasty. In historical texts it was recorded it was out of fear of his life.
  2. Pass away/ leave: Reason why I was unsure was because the terms for pass away and leave can be the same in chinese. And the chinese subtitles did not specially identify which scenario it was so I left it like that.
  3. Book of divine pivot: Otherwise known as the Lingshu Jing: Was an ancient chinese medical text compiled in the 1st century BCE. No versions of it before the 12th century has survived as it was believed that they were destroyed during the Warring States Period. The reason why the Chinese Government has a copy now was because a scholar named Shi Song who discovered that the country had lost this book and donated his copy to the government from his collection.  The earliest of this book is now preserved in the National Library of China and was the one from 1155 BCE. There may be an earlier version of it in Korea as the Goryeo Kingdom (918 – 1390s) had once given a copy to the Chinese Government during the Northern Song dynasty which was also destroyed.
  4. Jueyingyu acupoint: This is a stimulus point in the middle of the upper back.
  5. The Hu people/ foreign people: This is the collective name for all foreigners but sometimes are used to describe the tribes residing in the grasslands (Inner and Outer Mongolia)

  2. This may be exaggerated but maybe you should put a *Trigger Warning* on top of your post? I didn’t realize how much I was shaken up about it until later on, and I watched worse before, but I think it was the suddenness of it? Maybe some people like me have personal experiences that can be triggered by it, but I don’t really know…. it was just a passing thought, I think I’ll make an announcement on Tumblr, traumas are strange things that can be woken up out of nowhere, better to be safe than sorry? I welcome other people thoughts on the question!

    1. I can understand that feeling cos having an episode that you have not seen yet ..available, makes it like a safety net for boring days. Thank you PP for subbing.
Have to say the symbiotic relationship between XS and RY is too cute. Especially when they were pre-examining and discussing payments. Also the part when RY realising she is a different environment and asking BY instead to assit her instead of XS.
The cases getting really complicated, requiring several rewatch to understand whats going on.

  3. ahhhhhh…..tysm PP…..its been so long since the last eps…..i was so ecstatic when i saw the uploads !!…the wait is so worth it….
    may i ask…
in ep22…any reason why XS fixed the boots of RY …?

    1. It looked like her boot was half off as she was trying to walk and he noticed. I feel as tho him doing that is equivalent to modern day chivalry where the man ties the shoe laces of the girl. Romantic gesture.

Xiao Song truly supports Ran Yan, he didn’t waiver even for a second. Buuuut, now they both have more enemies to worry about….

  6. Oh my god that was an intense, fucked up, nasty episode! Can’t believe this dude thought organising the rape of one’s sister is a smooth courting/flirting technique…… Xia Song was amazing, but chaos is at the corner, I’ll be yearning for next episodes! Thanks as always for your work, best wishes!

    1. Did he actually rape her or he didn’t and just ended up passing out?? Her clothes are still intact but this is a typical c-drama so that could be for modesty sake maybe …. I don’t know! What’s everybody’s opinion??? God hope it wasn’t true or else I’m staring to hate the writer coz it’s a lame plot line for the FL!!! Arggghhh

      1. Probably did not happen, we know how much chastity is important to Chinese dramas, and Sang Chen has a pretty suspicious bump on his forehead, but the situation was made public anyway..
This was really fucked up, poor poor Sang Chen & Ran Yan, even poor Xiao Song & Su Du, everyone is suffering from the situation

    1. Ep 23 is amazing. Gosh you can see XS and RY have multiple enemies. XS is now .. like the rest of us.. under qurantine (by the Emperor). However it does look like he is ignoring that edict to go after RY enemies. Naughty XS.
SF behind the scene acts seems to benefit him on two fronts, he gets to punished the guilty party and also pin the blame on his main competitor for his love. Interesting indeed
