Synopsis: Song Yu Die (Zheng Shuang) is a renowned chef in Hangzhou city with a mysterious identity. She grew up learning how to cook from her adopted mother who is also a brilliant chef and the owner of the famous restaurant Tianxiang restaurant. Her sweetheart Li Ma (Ray Ma) is the adopted son of her mother and she knows that they will marry when they grow up. However things change when she encounters Prince Zhao Yuan Qing and Li Ma heads off to the battlefield to build a career for himself. Meanwhile beneath the prosperity, a threat lurks in the background and together with Li Ma, Zhao Yuan Qing she may have to make the ultimate sacrifice to save it…..

Notes:

1. The best restaurant: not sure if it means the best restaurant or if it’s the name of a restaurant
2. Look for a bone in an egg: Deliberately trying to find fault in something that is faultless. Can’t find a bone in an egg.
3. Tian Xiang: the literal translation of the name of the restaurant is “scent of Heaven/Heaven’s scent”
4. Ye Xiang v.s. Tian Xiang: Tian Xiang means scent of Heaven whereas Ye Xiang means the scent/fragrance of the night (night soil) i.e. urine and other human excreta. Human excreta got this name as in the past, China had no proper toilet. People did their business in a container called a chamber pot and then handed it over to the night soil collector who would often come at night (as apparently was not as bad at this time). Many older generation Chinese in mainland China may remember this kind of practise as it was only phased out several decades ago.
