Notes:

  1. Gu eagle: it’s a chinese mythical creature that does has human and bird physical characteristics with large horns and eats human flesh.
  2. Tear mole: This is a mole often at the corner of your eye(s). There is this superstition that if you have such a mole on your eye your’e going to have very sad and difficult life and you will spend a lot of time crying. This is why some chinese will try and find ways to get rid of freckles and moles around the eye area to try and “improve” their life.
  3. In case I haven’t made it clear in my translations, there is I believe two parts to this hair ornament/ Zan Hua gathering/banquet. One is capturing this demonic beast and (the flower picking mission where the participants are picked through a draw; the second part are public fighting matches on a stage, usually amongst the younger generation of warriors.

  2. Thank you so much for your subs. I have been waiting for another jewel and this looks like one. The time you put in must be enormous and very much appreciated by an English speaker only. I always love your site because of the preliminary explanations for terms that appear that are unique – like tear mole. I have been avoid your “food episode” subs because I am stuck at home and temptation with food is the worst side effect of being isolated at home. Already tried so many new foods and recipes — my doctor is going to kill me. Thanks again = when pandemic is over will go back and watch the food ones.
