Synopsis: Li Xia, an employee in a startup video game company is trapped inside the new virtual otome game that her company has developed after a few bugs prevents her from leaving the virtual world she was transported into. There, she meets the Emperor and the lead male character of the game who has disguised himself as an eunuch to try and escape from the stifling court affairs. After saving her from drowning twice, she and the Emperor strike up a strange and comedic relationship which slowly blossoms to a sweet touching love story.


  1. Crossed arm wine: The wine that is drunk in the bridal chamber. Technically the cups of wine that the bride and groom drinks half of the wine, then drinks the other half of the wine in the cup after they cross their arms to represent the coming of 2 halves into one. In the earlier dynasties, cups were not used, instead the wine was poured into two half gourd shells to represent the combination of 2 halves to become one and a string was attached to the cups to symbolize that they will be forever tied in matrimony. If a man takes a concubine this step is not performed.
  2. Slept on brushwood (and ate bitter gall): This is a common chinese idiom which means going through a lot of hardships in order to achieve one’s goal.
  3. Raiding us when there is a fire: A chinese saying which means taking advantage of another’s misfortune and benefiting from it
  4. Her body must be burned: Traditional/ancient chinese beliefs state that one must need a complete body in order to go through reincarnation and the afterlife and hence it’s best to keep a complete body. Burning it would mean that the body would not be complete and the dead will suffer a lot of hardship and pain in the afterlife. Hence some punishments for criminals was to decimate the body in some way in order for their punishment to continue on into death.
