Notes:

  1. Li Ao and Hu Yin Meng: Li Ao was is a chinese taiwanese author who was once thought to be the greatest writers in modern times. One of his most famous love affairs was Hu Yin Meng of which he described as “If a new kind of girl, she’s pretty and drifting around….it must be her” they fell passionately in love but soon after divorced on bitter terms and Li Ao would spend the rest of his life complaining about what a nasty woman she was.
  2. Cross armed wine: A ritual often seen in weddings where the bride and groom would link their arms and drink as it was meant to symbolize the coming together of two halves.
  3. Shi fu or mentor/master/teacher: There is not really an english equivalent to it. A shi fu is someone who teaches you, often a unique trade and in the past, he or she was kind of like half a parent, not only teaching you knowledge but also life lessons too hence the title is made up of two characters, “shi/ 师” which means teacher and “fu/父” which means father.
  4. A leaking boat has 3000 nails and a starving camel is bigger than a donkey: These are idioms that means even if someone who has a particular skill or something who was in a previously better position falls on hard times, they will have more advantage than someone who just started out.
